Hong Kong Student Visa - Sub-degree Courses
Introduction of Sub-degree Courses
Sub-degree courses which include associate degree courses, higher diploma courses and professional degree courses are courses leading to higher education qualifications in Hong Kong after completion of secondary education. The courses usually take two years to complete.
Difference between associate degree courses and higher diploma courses:
- Associate degree courses mainly focus on general areas, such as languages, information technology, liberal studies and so on, which account for at least 60% of the total course syllabus.
- Higher diploma courses mainly focus on specialized areas, such as specialized subjects, special training, vocational skills and so on, which account for at least 60% of the total course syllabus.
In accordance with the current arrangement of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for the Mainland Chinese to study in Hong Kong, qualified Mainland Chinese can apply for student visas to study sub-degree courses leading to associate degrees or higher diplomas in Hong Kong (here-in-after referred as “Application for Studying in a Sub-degree Course in Hong Kong” or “the Application”).
Qualifications Required for the Application
In order to qualify, the applicant shall have no known serious criminal records and be able to meet any one of the following requirements:
- If the applicant is currently studying as a year three high school student, he/she shall provide his/her high school examination results for the last two years and possess certain English communication abilities; or
- If the applicant is a fresh high school graduate or alumni, he/she shall provide his/her transcripts/results of the college entrance examination; or
- If the applicant has received higher education after high school, he/she shall provide his/her examination results from the higher education; or
- If the applicant has studied in an internationally accredited high school, he/she shall provide his/her examination results of the internationally accredited high school ; or
- If the applicant has attended any international examinations (IB/SAT/A Level), he/she shall provide such international examination results.
Minimum Score Requirements:
- The total score of the college entrance examination reached 300 (Full score: 750) + English score in the college entrance examination reached 70 (Full score: 150) + interview;
- Due to limited places of sub-degree courses, only the best applicants will be admitted.
Application Process
- Preliminary assessment based on different situations of each applicant;
- Signing service agreement with us;
- Mentor evaluation, formulation of preliminary strategy for college and course selection, and preparation of application materials;
- Finalization of strategy for university/college and course selection and submission of related applications;
- Co-ordination with the university/college concerned and where necessary, submission of any additional documents required;
- Receiving interview notice and attending interview;
- Receiving conditional or unconditional offer;
- In case of unconditional offer, fulfilling the conditions required;
- Applying for student visa and going through the university/college enrollment procedures;
- Being officially enrolled.
Timeframe: 3-6 months
After having ordinarily resided in Hong Kong continuously for not less than 7 years, the applicant is entitled to apply for the right of abode in Hong Kong, Hong Kong permanent resident card, and Hong Kong passport.
University/College Tuition Fee
The tuition fee of a sub-degree course will be ranged from HK$40,000 to HK$80,000 for each school year depending on the university/college and the course finally enrolled. An applicant shall be responsible for his/her own living and accommodation expenses.
Advantages of the Program
- No requirements on age or net worth; relatively low requirements on examination results;
- A number of courses leading to different professions for selection; formal university/college diplomas;
- The applicant can enjoy the same public facilities and medical services like other Hong Kong residents;
- The applicant will have a Hong Kong identity card when studying in Hong Kong;
- The applicant can get a Hong Kong permanent identity card after having ordinarily resided Hong Kong continuously for seven years;
- Seamlessly aligned with higher education institutions; after graduation, the applicant may choose to further study by directly enrolling in the third year of a bachelor degree course in a university in Hong Kong or overseas;
- The current unemployment rate in Hong Kong is only 2.9%, almost everyone can get a job; after graduation from a sub-degree course, the applicant can apply to stay in Hong Kong for promoting to a bachelor degree course, and after graduation from the bachelor degree course, he/she can apply to work in Hong Kong;
- While the applicant is attending a bachelor degree course or working in Hong Kong, his/her dependants (spouse and children below the age of 18 years) can apply for dependant visas to stay in Hong Kong, these dependants can also work or study in Hong Kong, therefore family union will not be affected.
